Celebrate Tavistock’s independent businesses on 13 July with the launch of the award-winning shop local campaign Totally Locally. Tavistock is joining over 25 other UK towns that are already making use of this free campaign, which aims to encourage consumers to think about where they do their shopping and the impact it has on the local economy.
Festivities run from 10 am to 4 pm in the Guildhall car park, next to the Town Hall, with a Totally Locally Market, featuring local traders and a free shopping bag giveaway for the first 50 bags!
There will be lots of family fun with Peppa Pig, a bouncy castle, facepainting and parachute games by Mia Holman, as well as a children’s town trail with free prize at the end. Transition Tavistock will also be running a colouring competition.
Throughout the day, cookery demonstrations by local chefs Peter Gorton of Gorton’s restaurant, Paul Giles-Phillips of the Terrace Restaurant and others will showcase delicious family-friendly recipes using seasonal, local produce.
You can find out how shopping in Tavistock has changed over the years through a fascinating exhibition of Tavistock traders from 1870 to 1970, and discover Tavistock’s ‘Hidden Gems’ through the lens of local photographer Portia Crossley.
Information about the Totally Locally campaign will be available on the day, which also sees the kick off the ‘Fiver Fest’ fortnight. Almost 60 local independent businesses are offering great deals for £5 for two weeks. Pick up a leaflet or visit the website www.totallylocallytavistock.co.uk to find out more information.
